I am here with you to share my views on HR in post pandemic era. You might be wondering why I am referring to this period as Era, it is because the COVID pandemic has brought a sea change in our ways of working, our thought process, ways of looking at things etc, normally it takes too much effort and time to bring these changes in any system, however COVID pandemic had made it clear that if we don’t change we may not survive.
All of us experienced hardest of all times last year from managing cost pressures to manpower optimization to adapting technology in our field of work to Work from home and the list goes on. We all did fairly well and Kudos to all of us for this great work done.
Now what next, as an HR professionals we need to take a pause and think what we should continue doing, what we should stop and what we should do new to be future ready for any such Pandemic kind of scenarios in time to come.
My two cents on above said 3 areas are –
1. Continue doing - Manpower and related Cost optimization in all functions, build capability in organisation, improve efficiencies, and facilitate improve productivity of employees, improved employee engagement, improved and transparent communication between employees and organization.
2. Start doing - Develop HR function to be more agile, Emphasizing on automation or digitization of HR processes, keep a tab on mental health and well being of employees and facilitating ways to deal with stress because many of us and our employees have still been going through stress brought by Pandemic, Adopt analytics to identify concern areas, identify causes and implement resolution of these concerns and assess effectiveness of resolution implemented, better planning.
3. Stop doing - Hirings without fully convinced on requirements, working in silos, one-sided communication (Employees needs to be listened patiently) etc.
Above lists are just a beginning and you can always add to these as per your experience/thoughts/organizational needs.
I would like to conclude by sharing one thought that I strongly believe and follow, treat human beings as human beings and most of our problems will be solved.
