Environmental Officer

Job Description

The Environmental Officer is responsible for managing and overseeing environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives within the construction projects. The role involves implementing environmental policies, conducting environmental impact assessments, and ensuring adherence to regulations to minimize the environmental footprint of the company’s activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Environmental Compliance:
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections of construction sites to ensure adherence to environmental policies and procedures.
  2. Impact Assessment:
    • Perform environmental impact assessments for ongoing and upcoming projects, identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Prepare and submit environmental impact reports and documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
  3. Sustainability Initiatives:
    • Develop and implement sustainability programs and practices to reduce waste, energy consumption, and resource use.
    • Promote and facilitate the use of sustainable materials and practices in construction projects.
  4. Training and Awareness:
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops for staff and subcontractors on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Develop and disseminate educational materials on environmental issues and compliance requirements.
  5. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of environmental compliance, incidents, and corrective actions.
    • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for management on environmental performance and improvements.
  6. Incident Management:
    • Investigate and manage environmental incidents and violations, including spills, pollution, and waste mismanagement.
    • Coordinate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address and resolve environmental issues.
  7. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the company’s environmental practices remain current and effective.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Total experience of 5 years, with at least 3 years of relevant experience in environmental management or compliance within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in environmental management software and tools.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in environmental management or sustainability (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001).
  • Experience with environmental impact assessment tools and methodologies.

Work Environment:

  • The role involves fieldwork at construction sites and may require occasional travel to project locations.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and adhere to safety protocols.
