Safety Officer

Job Description

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and managing safety protocols and ensuring a safe working environment on construction sites. This role involves conducting safety inspections, facilitating training programs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safety Compliance:
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations and standards on construction sites.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  2. Safety Training:
    • Develop and deliver safety training programs and orientations for new employees and subcontractors.
    • Maintain up-to-date safety manuals and training materials.
  3. Incident Management:
    • Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
    • Ensure proper reporting of incidents to regulatory agencies and maintain accurate records.
  4. Safety Procedures:
    • Develop and implement safety procedures and emergency response plans tailored to construction activities.
    • Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective gear are available, maintained, and used correctly.
  5. Risk Assessment:
    • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
    • Monitor and review safety performance and make recommendations for improvements.
  6. Regulatory Adherence:
    • Stay informed about current safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
    • Ensure that safety practices are updated in accordance with changes in regulations and industry standards.
  7. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with project managers, construction workers, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety on site.
    • Participate in safety meetings and collaborate with other departments to address safety concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Basic Science, Arts, or a related field.
  • Total experience of 3 years, with at least 1 year of relevant experience in safety management or a similar role in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in conducting safety training and emergency response planning.
  • Familiarity with safety management systems and risk assessment tools.

Work Environment:

  • The role involves working on construction sites and may require occasional travel to different project locations.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and adhere to safety protocols.
